Most people don’t realize, when you purchase that delicious shipment of premium wine online or in the tasting room and arrange to have it shipped to your home, that an actual human over the age of 21 will have to be there to sign for the delivery.
This is not just a silly hoop we ask you to jump through to get your wine, it’s actually federal law, so we don’t really have a say in the whole thing. That being said, it can be more than a little inconvenient to wait around at home all day during the work week for the UPS guy to show up. Most of us just don’t have that luxury.
Not to worry, you do have some options! A lot of people find that it is more convenient to have their wine delivered to their place of work. However, that too can be a bit touchy. If a box full of alcohol is not an appropriate package to be delivered to your place of employment you can also have you order shipped to what is called a UPS Access Point™.
Typically that just means it would be shipped to a UPS Store where someone will sign at delivery for you and hold it there for a week or so for you to come and pick it up. Sometimes there is a small fee for this service, however every UPS Store is independently owned so they are all a little different when it comes to this policy.
We use UPS Ground shipping for the wine orders. While we can give you an estimated delivery date once the package leaves our warehouse as well as the UPS tracking number, we are not able to guarantee or even request a time of day that your package is delivered. When customers are having a particularly difficult time with the delivery of their wine, I usually recommend that they sign up for UPS My Choice.
It is a free service offered by UPS, that gives consumers more control over their residential deliveries. Members can receive an email or text message the day before a shipment arrives. If they won’t be home, they can re-route most packages to their workplace, a neighbor’s home or a nearby UPS Access Point™ location. Members can also provide instructions for their UPS driver to leave their deliveries at places such as their home’s back porch or side of the garage.
